Financial Institutions constitute Norfund’s second largest investment sector and invest in equity/loans in different providers of financial services in sub-Saharan Africa, South East Asia and Central America. Norfund has recently agreed to pool its equity investments in Africa into a new investment firm, Arise, together with FMO – the Dutch Development Bank, Rabobank and Norfinance – a joint venture with Norwegian commercial investors. Arise will be operating out of South Africa. Norfund is looking to hire a new Investment Director in Oslo whose primary responsibility will be to follow-up and manage Norfund/Norfinance’s 48% ownership in Arise. The successful candidate should ideally have extensive experience from active investments and banking. The person employed will be reporting to the Head of Department, Financial Institutions.


Scope of work:
• Primary responsible for Norfund’s investment in Arise – a long-term equity investment firm in financial service providers in sub-Saharan Africa with an initial asset base of about USD 650 million covering 10 African banks.
• Build a close working relationship with the management of Arise as well as with Norfund’s co-investors.
• On-going assessment of the performance of Arise including ensuring adequate reporting as well as forming opinions on further Norfund investments into Arise.
• Assessment of new investment opportunities whenever suggested by Arise.
• Potentially raising further capital from commercial Norwegian investors into Arise through Norfinance.

Specific qualifications for this position:
• Master’s degree in business/finance or similar.
• Background from banking and board experience.
• Result oriented, and capacity to work independently, lead processes on your own and be a resource for others in the department through challenging decision-making processes.
• Structured and efficient work style with strong analytical skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build professional relationships with people from different cultures.
• Knowledge of banking and active ownership.
• Excellent communication skills in Norwegian and English.
• Work experience from Africa, Latin America or Asia is an advantage.
