The University of Stavanger invites applications for a position as professor of Data Driven Energy Informatics at the Faculty og Science and Technology, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. The position is vacant from 1.7.2017 or by appointment.

The position's responsibilities comprise research, teaching, supervision, student assessment and administration related to the field of Data Science, Data Privacy and other data technologies, focusing on energy informatics. Further details are given in the job description below.

The appointee must be able to document extensive academic qualifications within central areas of the academic field and, through her/his work, to have demonstrated scientific competence within one or more areas of the discipline. The ability to initiate and direct research and development projects will be given high priority.

Qualifications within the areas of creativity, innovation and commercialization of research will be given emphasis.

The appointee is expected to collaborate closely with CIPSI - Centre for IP-based Service Innovation at UiS, to engage and develop research and innovation projects related to energy informatics using Big Data Analytics, Data Privacy, Cloud Computing, and Machine Learning.

The appointee must also be able to document pedagogical and didactic skills related to higher education, or accept to enter a university teaching courses within a period of two years from commencement. The application should include a reflection on teaching skills. Use of varied teaching methods is a priority at the university. The appointee must be prepared to adopt different methods and different digital learning resources. Professor will the first year participate in ?NyTi" which is the universities guidance and integration program for new teachers.

The language of instruction is normally Norwegian. The appointee must have a good command of oral and written Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, or acquire such language competence within a period of two years. The appointee must also be prepared to teach classes in English.

If there are no fully qualifies applicants, employment may be offered as Associate Professor.

The position of professor is salaried according to the State Salary Code, l.pl 17.510, code 1013, of NOK 648.100 - 790 100 per annum. In special cases higher salaries may apply.

The position provides for automatic membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, which guarantees favorable retirement benefits. Members may also apply for home investment loans at favorable interest rates.

Job description
Appointment applies to the whole university. The position is currently organized under the Faculty of Science and Technology, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

The academic field for the position is Data Driven Energy Informatics.

The candidate shall help initiate research projects and perform independent research within Data Sciences as Big Data Analytics, Data Privacy, Cloud Computing, and Machine Learning. UiS aims to increase external research funding through national and international sources, and the candidate is expected to take a leading role in this work.

The candidate is expected to collaborate closely with CIPSI - Centre for IP-based Service Innovation at UiS, to engage and develop research and innovation projects related to energy informatics.

The position also includes teaching courses in Data Sciences, and supervising bachelor, master and doctoral students.

The candidate is expected to be involved in dissemination of all aspects of the field to academic communities, industry and the general public.

The appointee is expected to strengthen research at the UiS and IRIS through initiation and management of research programs in addition to individual research and teaching within her/his academic discipline(s). The appointee will conduct courses, supervise students and participate in student assessment at all levels within the field for the position, in addition to assuming administrative duties.

The appointee is expected to support and participate in the other activities at the faculty and also to accept responsibility for interdepartmental programs or projects.

The University emphasizes excellence in teaching quality and requires that teaching staff has educational and didactic expertise in higher education. Pedagogical competence can be documented with diploma / certificate from relevant formal educational training related to higher education. Didactic competence can be documented with varied didactic work in higher education. Regulations for assessment of teaching skills are available from the Faculty.

Applicants will be screened by an expert committee on the basis of submitted material. The committee will particularly consider the applicants' submitted scholarly and scientific work and their teaching skills. Experience from popularization, journalism, university politics and administration, and other relevant and documented qualifications for the position can also be considered.

Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science is part of the Faculty of Science and Technology. The department carries out research within data, electricity and electronics, and offers bachelor programs in electrical- and computer engineering, master programs in computer science and cybernetics/signal processing, and a PhD program in information technology. The master program in computer science is an international program and is taught in english. There are currently 40 employees, including research fellows and postdocs, and 520 students at the departement.
