The Director of Norges Bank Research reports to the Executive Director of Monetary Policy and is a member of this department’s management team. The Research Unit currently has ten researchers in permanent appointments. In addition, there are a number of external researchers, students and research assistants affiliated with the unit. The working language in the Research Unit is English.
Duties include:
- Strategic and operative management of the Research Unit
- Participating in the Monetary Policy Department’s management team
- Being proactive in developing the Research Unit further in line with the Bank’s objectives
- Serving as a link between the Research Unit and the policy units at Norges Bank
- Conducting own research
- Building networks internally, nationally and internationally
Qualifications:
- The person we are seeking has management experience and solid international research experience in Norges Bank’s field. Formal qualification for the position is a doctorate with a solid academic record, substantial research production documented by publications in leading international journals, several years’ relevant management experience and experience in the application of research results in providing practical policy advice. The person we are seeking has a wide professional network both nationally and internationally.
- Good character with personal finances in order. Norges Bank will obtain a police certificate of good conduct and credit information. Education and work experience will be verified. A new hire will also have to undergo a security clearance in accordance with the Security Act.

Norges Bank is Norway's central bank. Norges Bank manages Norway's foreign exchange reserves and the Government Pension Fund Global (GPFG). At the end of 2015, Norges Bank had approximately 750 employees.
Solid and relevant research and analysis form the basis for the Bank's conduct of policy. Research activity is intended to support the main objectives of central banking operations by contributing high-quality research. Another task of the Research Unit is to raise the Bank's profile in academia and among research institutions and to enhance Norges Bank's reputation and standing among professional economists.
The Research Unit aims to attain its objectives through relevant research of a standard that qualifies it for publication in refereed international or national journals. The unit also prepares reports and provides advice in collaboration with the specialist departments, communicates research results to Bank employees and maintains contact with relevant educational and research institutions. Research activity focuses on monetary policy and financial stability.
